Not-at-all-Science-Fiction-Related News: The EU Parliament Elections

The main batch of European Union parliamentary elections are wrapping up as we speak, and the results are sort of surprising:

In pretty much every EU member state that had a socialist party in charge, the Socialist party isn't in charge any more. Even in situations where the Socialists were out of the catbird seat already, their power continued to diminish. This was unexpected, and particularly surprising in Italy and France, somewhat less surprising in England.

SONG OF THE DAY: "Human Touch" by Rick "Zac" Springfield (1983)

I told you Rick would be back:

This song is actually a guilty pleasure of mine. Though I totally failed to get it when I was 16, Rick is going for a Shatner thing here. Check out the way he poses thoughtfully in the chair. Also, check out the dancer who blows his move around 3:24 or so in the song.

You know, Rick did a bunch of these SF-flavored videos, and he was "Zac" in Galactica, it never occured to me before now to ask if he really liked SF or if it was just a trendy move by his manager.

Anyway, Rick'll be back.

SONG OF THE DAY: "Bop 'Til You Drop" by Rick Springfield (1984)

I apologize in advance for the song, but you can't escape the SF trappings of the video:

Sadly, this was the beginning of the end for old Rick. He kept releasing more material that sounded like this though the mid-80s, and his fanbase just didn't seem to like it. It lacked the catchy harmonies he was known for, and the lyrics became less bubblegummy. If there was ever a bad time for a musician to discover meaningful music, it was 1984/85.

But fear not, Rick will turn up again.
