This project has been brewing for some time- and since we like to keep tabs on what James Cawley is up to, we thought you would too.

Somehow, it looks like Cawley might make the leap from fan film auteur to actual producer of a licensed property. He has made a deal with the Dille Family Trust, owners of the Buck Rogers character, to produce a webseries based on the original version of the character as he appeared in the short story "Armageddon 2419 A.D." by Philip Nowlan.

Cawley, as usual, is not above stunt casting- check out Buck's parents in the clip below:

I really like the tone and the fact that Cawley has envisioned this as a period piece (of sorts). I'm not really crazy about the casting: Bobby Rice is a fine actor, but he doesn't fit my mental image of a swashbuckling hero. He may prove me wrong, though.

That said, we are all about supporting the 'little guy', the rugged individualism that drives this sort of project. Cawley and company have started a Kickstarter page to raise funds for what I understand to be a feature length pilot, with a good variety of premiums, including the possibility of a walk-on. We have the opportunity to vote with our wallets here, take it!

And here's the teaser trailer:
