Well, I guess I'm a really poor judge of a film's appeal; as of this writing, Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" has raked in a billion dollars at the world-wide box office.
It took in $300 million domestically, and the rest in foreign theatres. Its gate puts it in the club with such blockbusters at "Titanic," "Avatar," "The Avengers," and Jackson's earlier Middle Earth outing, "The Return of the King."
I still haven't seen this film, but I'll probably end up getting it on DVD. Eventually.
Maybe when Peter Jackson needs more money...
