Back on President's Day, Syfy ran a mini-marathon of the original "V" series from the 80s. It's a much maligned show, and deservedly so. My own memories of it were that it was of a sub-Man From Atlantis level of crap. I ended up watching the original TV Movie (1983), however, and was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It didn't really play out like an SF show, but an open allegory about Fascism and Scapegoating. It was like a good Playhouse 90 episode, or a superattenuated Twilight Zone.

The second TV movie ("The Final Battle" 1984) was terrible, however, just terrible, and just as in 1985, I was unable to make it through a single episode of the actual series.

I think it's done by the same people who did last week's Galactica/Space: 1999 mashup, since it re-uses one of the CGI same effects shots, and it runs a bit long, but the payoff hits around 2:30.

Next week we'll cast aside the mashups and move on to more proper fan films
