I think it's over. I think it's officially done. I don't want to be one of those people who just rags on something because it's trendy to do so, but I honestly do feel like there's been a sad decline in the quality of 30 Rock - once my favorite show - since about the middle of last year.
As of this episode, the bloom is officially off the rose, and there's nothing special about it anymore. Anyone wanting a cute, funny MILF-fix would be wise to check out Cougartown.
That said, Cougartown isn't likely to give us any random Star Wars gags, and that's one of the few things 30 Rock still has going for it....
About two thirds of the way through this week's episode, Kenneth tries to teach a new actor on the show-within-a-show how to be, well, mean, and in the process he enrages the guy. As the new character amps up and up, Kenneth lapses in to a third-rate Emperor Palpatane impression from "Return of the Jedi" - "Yes! Embrace the dark side!" and so on. A year ago, this would have been the weakest gag in any episode, now, sadly, it's the best they've got going. You can see it at 16:42 here
I will say, however, that the character-based stuff between Lemon and Jack was really well done. Not particularly funny, but well done.
