DC UPDATE: The New 52: Week One (An Introduction)

Yesterday marked the beginning of The New 52, the marketing tagline being given to the new line of DC Comics books. The actual beginning was last Wednesday with the release of Justice League #1, however the event truly began this week. Over the course of the month DC Comics will be revamping and relaunching 52 of its titles and our new DC Update feature will follow its progress every month.

We won't be doing any book by book reviews, but we will be here every month just sorta letting everyone know what's been going on in the world of some of our favorite men (and women) in tights. I won't be reading every book, because I can't afford 52 subscriptions every month, but I will be reading all the big ones and keeping up on the universe as a whole.

As of now, I'm not sure what to make of it, but it certainly has me intrigued. Also, I'm not sure what's going on with continuity. For instance, in Justice League #1 Superman, Batman and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) are obviously meeting for the first time, but the new Green Lantern title is starring Sinestro (yes, Sinestro!) and is picking up where the epic War of the Green Lanterns left off. So apparently there's some rebooting and some continuing from what's gone before and not a lot of shared continuity in between. Also, the Superman in Action Comics #1 seems to be a different Superman than in the new Justice League title. So, hopefully the confusion is cleared up, but at any rate we'll all find out together. Below you will find a list of all 52 new titles and their release dates. The ones in all caps are the ones I'm reading or planning on reading. I'm interested to hear what, if any, you guys will be reading.

That's all for our first DC Update, we'll see you all next month with a discussion of the #1's and my first impressions of where the line is going!
