This bit of news came in today in my DC Nation newsletter, so I thought I'd share. You can read the full post on DC's blog here: http://www.dccomics.com/blog/2012/03/19/first-look-at-arrow?adid=0321Mkt...

Now, Aquaman and Wonder Woman went to pilot but neither ever got picked up, so it's still possible that a solo Green Arrow series could go nowhere, but I'm excited. There was also some buzz a while back about a possible Blue Beetle series, which seems to have evaporated. Out of the three, I think Green Arrow has the best chance of making it to series.

Oliver Queen and his green-leather-clad alter ego gained quite a following during his recurring appearances in Smallville's sixth and seventh seasons, eventually earning him a spot as series regular for the rest of the series. Smallville made Arrow an A-list DC hero. It got me interested enough in the character (who I had largely ignored beforehand) to pick up The Longbow Hunters by Mike Grell, and that series made me a fan. I'm more excited about Arrow than any other botched attempt to recapture the Smallville magic.

Having Arrow in costume (see the picture in the linked article) is a step in the right direction for making this series a success. It seems like most comic book inspired shows try to stay away from costumes (Birds of Prey, I'm looking at you), and I know that turns me off. So I'm excited that we're gonna get to see Ollie in costume. Here are some other things I'd like to see:

1. A strong Mike Grell influence. I thought Grell's run on Arrow back in the 80's was the best interpretation of the character. Grell just seemed to capture something in the character that no other writer before or since has been able to find.

2. Seattle. I know this goes along with the Mike Grell thing, but for some reason when I think Seattle, I think Green Arrow. Even if they desperately want to call it Star City, I'm OK with that, but at least film it or base the city on Seattle. I want to see the needle!

3. Guest stars! I want to see Black Canary (I'd love it if she were even a supporting regular) and Hal Jordan. Even if they go the Mike Grell route and not strip Canary of her powers and only show Hal in civvies, I'm OK with that too. More than anything, I want to see the chemistry of the characters (although actually showing GL would be a plus).

That's what I want, how about you guys? Excited? Disappointed it won't be Justin Hartley in the hoodie? Sound off in the comments section below!
