EPISODE REVIEW: Warehouse 13: “Implosion” (Episode 7)

Tonight had all the earmarks of being another sub-par episode, but it completely fooled me and ended up being one of the best ones they’ve done, very likely the best of the whole series up to now, despite a rough start and some gratuitous Conulselor Troi-ing.

Pete and Mika are in St. Louis investigating a gas fire in a police station, where Pete notes “A bigass generator,” so you know that’s going to come in to play later on, right? Six people died, several others injured. In the basement, they find a man wearing 1960s clothes handcuffed to a pipe. They quickly realize he was a Warehouse agent.

EPISODE REVIEW: Warehouse 13: “Elements” (Episode 5)

Something that always bugged me about Star Trek: The Next Generation was that they continually seemed to be laboring under the misconceptions that the climax of a story and the end of the story were the same thing. You can do that on occasion, of course - hit the climax and let people conclude what happens next. Philip K. Dick did that a lot in his short stories - but you can’t make a steady diet of it. You need some time to digest what happened, to think of the ramifications, the consequences, to count the cost, to steel yourself before going on.

EPISODE REVIEW: Warehouse 13: “Claudia” (Episode 4)

Republibot 3.0's picture

PLEASE NOTE: Syfy is re-running the first season of Warehouse 13 as a way of simultaneously building up for the new season and and admitting it's got nothing in the way of programming, so, as such, we're re-running this review for those of you who may not have seen it, or the episode previously.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE: That while I feel like we probably should continue to cover this show in its second year, I definitely feel like I don't wanna' be the guy who does it. I've got waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much stuff on my plate, so if *YOU* would like to take a stab at it and reap the (non-financial) rewards of having hundreds of total strangers hang on your every word, and then call you a jerk afterwards, we're probably willing to let you try. Drop me a line at Three@Republibot.com and we'll talk.

Is it too early to start calling this show a Joss Whedon Knockoff?

We start out with Artie in a limbo-lit set, shot in high contrast black and white, talking to Mrs. Fredericks. He wakes from this dream in his warehouse office to find Mika and Pete phoning in a genuinely funny frantic report from one of their assignments (“No more zoos! Monkeys spit! Did you know monkeys spit?” “You still have some monkey phlegm in your hair.” “It isn’t phlegm”). Then “Claudia,” the hacker from the previous three episodes kidnaps Artie.

EPISODE REVIEW: Warehouse 13: “Magnetism” (Episode 3)

Republibot 3.0's picture

We’re all familiar with the Sophomore Slump, right? You’ve got your whole life to put together your first album, and only 18 months to come up with the second one, so it follows that it’ll be a bit lackluster. Of course if your first album is rather mediocre - as was the first album from Republibot 3.0 and the Republibot 3.0 Orchestra featuring Republibot 3.0, for instance - then it’s a bit easier to have a solid second showing.

EPISODE REVIEW: Warehouse 13: "Pilot" (Episode 1)

Shortly before a presidential reception at the Smithsonian, one of the conservators pricks his thumb on an ancient aztec bloodstone (Really it looks more Olmec to me). He goes goofy and decides to kill the president, but one of the agents at the shindig notices the bloodstone is, well, bloody, and decides to get it out of there on a hunch. Meanwhile an agent named Mica (She's a chick) takes down the knife-wielding maniac. In the basement, the guy meets another guy named Artie who puts a mohawk on the bloodstone, there's some lights, and everything is better.
