Series Review: Duck Dodgers in the 24th and 1/2 Century

In the interest of furthering our knowledge of animated sci-fi TV series, The Husband picked up the TV series "Duck Dodgers In The 24th and 1/2 Century." We watched the first 3 episodes on the DVD, and already I have a big problem with the format.

The animation is all right, and fairly true to the Chuck Jones style. The voice acting is good enough that I was surprised to find out Daffy and Porky were not done by Mel Blanc. The problem is with Daffy's character.

Star Wars Rebels: Vision Of Hope

Alright everybody, repeat after me: IT'S A TWAP!

Way back toward the beginning of this series, a Senator-in-exile from the Old Republic, by the name of Gall Trayvis, was making broadcasts encouraging the nascent Rebellion.  Even then, I could tell that he was actually trying to trick rebels into the clutches of the Empire.

Star Wars Rebels: The Idiot's Array

The title kind of sums up this episode: it was dreadful.

Zeb bets and loses Chopper during a game of sabacc he's playing with Lando Calrissian--voiced by Billy Dee Williams, who sounds far too old to be the smooth-talking thirty-something gambler and smuggler he's playing here.  Calrissian then hires the crew of the Ghost to smuggle some specialized mining equipment past the Imperial blockade of Lothal.  He alternately sucks up to, and pisses off, the various members of the crew.

Star Wars Rebels: Path of the Jedi

After a long holiday break, the show returns with the best episode yet.

Kanan is struggling to train Ezra, and decides to take the lad to a Jedi temple--only he requires Ezra to find it himself, using only the Force to guide him.  As it happens, there is a temple hidden in a mountain right there on Lothal (handy...) and Ezra listens to the stones and says they will only open for him and Kanan working together as master and padewan.

TV Reviews: The New Yoda Chronicles

When I was a kid, my brother and I played with our Star Wars action figures, making up weird, wild, and funny stories.  In high school, I drew a comic strip based on those "adventures," where Leia's band of Rebels were well-meaning but hapless goofs you wouldn't trust with a loaded blaster, and had been exiled to Yavin under her command in order to appease her wealthy patron father, the King of Alderaan.  Well, Disney must have gotten my notes, because "The New Yoda Chronicles" have all the silly sight gags and in-jokes I would have loved to have come up with myself.

Star Wars Rebels: Out Of Darkness

This episode featured the two female leads, Sabine and Hera, who until now have been barely getting any screen time, so I had high hopes for it.  Unfortunately this was solidly "meh" from start to finish.

I think they just don't know what to do with Sabine.  In this one, she played the part of impatient, angsty teen daughter against Hera's patient "we tell you what you need to know" mother figure.  About the only plot advancement we get is that Sabine used to attend the Imperial Academy.
