Ok, first up, let me apologize for that teeth-gnashing pun. I’ve obviously been hanging out with R2 entirely too much.

The thing is, when you’re young you’re indestructible - or at least you think you are - and you’re also somewhat emotionally cut off. You see and hear about bad things happening around the world, and it doesn’t affect you any more than hearing about a sale at JC Pennys. Yeah, it’s awful about all those kids in Africa/Eastern Europe/South America/Southeast Asia, but it’s only theoretically awful when you’re a fat, dumb, and happy adolescent or 20-something.

Welcome to Science Fiction Hell Week, Day Four. The kids VBS is over now, so less strain there, and I got some giddy good site-related news today that I can't really reveal yet, but suffice to say I'm surviving the daunting workload of the week, and am really enjoying watching and reviewing all this stuff.

Does it make me a really bad person that I was never able to get in to Torchwood? Or, conversely, does the fact that I was unable to get in to Torchwood make me a really *good* person?

After last's night's splosiony climax, we have bits an pieces of Jack all over the place, Gwen struggles to her feet and violently denies treatment. She then goes on to prove that Welsh police training does not include a great degree of marksmanship.

Ianto pulls himself from the wreckage and similarly finds himself under fire.

The Home Secretary takes a phone call at home from the assassin in charge of the death squad; and someone shows up with a translation of the alien demands.

Tonight begins the Torchwood miniseries "The Children of Earth" on BBC America. All the series regulars who were not blown to itty-bitty bits in the last series' finale seem to be present, so let's jump right into the play-by-play.

Torchwood, Day One

Is it just me, or is SF getting rather gay of late? Of course SF is naturally rather scattershot and leftist, so trying to nail known any specific agenda is always rather tough, but that just makes it all the more remarkable when science fiction suddenly gets in lockstep with itself and marches to the beat of the same drummer. This is, by its very nature, something the genre isn’t *supposed* to do. So the sudden and rather massive increase in ‘Gay SF’ in the media is probably all the more surprising because of that.
