FAN FILM FRIDAY: Roundup: Fan Trailers

Church's picture

Trailers are a popular format for fan films. They allow a fan to show the broad strokes of an idea in a short and accessable form, without the hassle of creating a full version. Recuts, which are made primarily from existing footage, allow all this to be done by one (very dedicated) fan entirely on his or her computer. Join me after the jump for three impressive examples of this genre.

EPISODE REVIEW: Thundercats: "Legacy" (Episode 7)

shhhimbatman's picture

This week picks up shortly after the last episode. The group is hanging around the Tower pretty much just chilling. Lion-o is trying to open the book and comes to the conclusion that instead of being magic in nature, The Book of Omens is instead technology. Suddenly the Book blast Lion-o knocking him unconscious. His spirit (?) is lifted into the book where his essence encounters Jaga who explains that the book is neither magic nor tech, and yet is both at the same time.

RECAP

The episode opens with Lion-o, Tygra and Cheetara talking about their expectations of Panthro as he works on the Thundertank. After Lion-o offers help and gets turned down Panthro explains that the tank is out of Thundrillium, a type of crystal that fuels tech, and must gather more from a mine in a nearby mountain. Unfortunately the mine is controlled and guarded by the lizard army and their commander Grune.

EPISODE REVIEW: Thundercats: "Song of the Petalars" (Episode 4)

Since I’m kinda jumping into the reviews of Thundercats I want to say a few things before I review episode 4. One, I was VERY impressed with the opening two-parter of this new series. In fact I was surprised at how enjoyable it was. The animation is a complete standout as mentioned by R3 along with the music. It brings to mind shows like Avatar: the Last Airbender. Lately it gets easy to take these things for granted but after watching another redone 80’s classic, Voltron Force on Nickleodeon, I can not reiterate enough just how much I appreciate the quality of the art and sound.

(not an) EPISODE REVIEW: Thundercats: "Remlak Rising" (Episode 3)

Republibot 3.0's picture

This is not a review or anything. As I said last week, despite how good the premier was, I'm not going to be covering this show. Why? Because it's the Thundercats, and at the end of the day, I just really don't care.

Credit where credit's due, however: the look, feel, and sound of this show is pretty amazing. The scenery is gorgeous, the animation is (As I said last time) easily the equivalent of feature-quality stuff from a decade ago, direction is really, really, good. What really blew me away tonight however, was the score!
