Things that never quite made it: Sky High (2005)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I'm a little burned out on fan films at the moment, so I'm gonna' take a little break. We'll get back to in eventually, but for the moment I think it's more important to bore you with flop movies that were intended as pilots for TV shows that also would have flopped, but never got the chance. When I say "More important," what I mean is "It's something to put here instead of an interesting fan film."

The Cape (No, not the one with Corbin Bernsen about NASA...)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Yesterday, I mentioned "No Ordinary Family," one of the new fall shows, which looked - no offence - kinda' lame. Then I found out that there's yet another live action superhero show on in the fall. This one is "The Cape" from NBC, and heaven help me, it actually looks kinda' good!

No Ordinary Family: Knockoff or Merely Derivative?

Republibot 3.0's picture

This fall there's a new superhero family series on ABC. When I say "Superhero Family," I assume you're wondering if it's a superhero show aimed at 'the whole family from baby to grandpa' or if it's a show about a family of superheroes. In this case it appears to be both.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: "I'm Power Girl, Dammit!" (2006)

Republibot 3.0's picture

There's endless lists of the differences between professional productions and Fan Films, and pretty much all of them are valid, but if you ask me, one of the most significant is the one no one actually wants to admit to: Professional actors and actresses are, by and large, better looking than us regular folks. Certainly better looking than me (Though I've got kind of a rakish Orson Wells thing going on, but I'm more striking than handsome, really).

FAN FILM FRIDAY: "Villains Day Off" (2009)

Republibot 3.0's picture

In keeping with our temporary respite from space-based SF Fan Films, I've decided to feature "Villains Day Off." I've been debating running this one for some time now, but I always hold off at the last minute because of that damn "Villains Just Want A Day Off" song that plays through the first half of the soundtrack. And some of the sound is a bit wonky.

DVD MOVIE REVIEW: “Justice League: New Frontier” (2008)

Republibot 3.0's picture

This is two thirds of a really good movie, which makes it especially frustrating when it all falls apart at the end. The film is set solidly in the 1950s, beginning the day (7/27/1953) and ends with a badly-animated president Kennedy giving a speech in July of ’61. The premise is that superheroes have gone out of fashion in the days since WW2, with most having retired. Those who remain are strongly questioning why they do it, since the lines between ‘good’ and ‘evil’ have gotten spectacularly muddy. (Huh?
