Training For The Apocalypse: Jedi Academy

Mama Fisi's picture

For those of you who just can't get enough of Jedi swordfighting, and have $410 to blow--and live in New York City--there's a dojo that teaches wanna-be Jedi masters how to use a lightsaber.

The tuition is $10.  The other $400 is for the laser sword.

Beware The Wookiee With A Camera

Republibot 4.0's picture

Peter Mayhew, who not only played the hirsute Chewbacca in the Star Wars franchise, but who also has a pretty keen sense of humor (you'd have to, to be internationally famous yet no one knows what you really look like or sound like), recently posted to his Twitter account a number of old behind-the-scenes photographs he's taken while working on the original trilogy, adding witty captions to them that make them even more one-of-a-kind.

You can actually fool most of the people some of the time...

Jedi Mind Trick's picture

I am 45 years old and have followed the Star Wars saga since watching the first movie in 1977. I was eight. The movie sent my young mind spinning off on daydreams about light saber duels, the utter coolness of robots, how kick ass holographic, interactive animated chess would be and, if I’m honest, the idea that girls (specifically brunette princesses) might not be so bad after all. In short, the movie changed my life and wired me for science fiction.

Star Wars VII: Countdown To 12/18/2015

Republibot 4.0's picture

Better start stocking up on hot chocolate and thermal underwear--and don't forget your Tauntaun sleeping bag--"Star Wars VII" is scheduled to be released December 18, 2015.

That means sitting on line to be the first to see it at a midnight screening will be similar to being on Hoth.

Who George Lucas Should Have Ripped Off for the Pre-Quels

kelloggs2066's picture

Well, we all know that George Lucas took Ben-Hur as the starting point
for the Pre-quels, and riffed on it from there. One can see his
reasoning: Ben-Hur is one of those socially concious movies that
critics love, and most people who are into film will say they've
watched it, but let's face it. Most of us kinda wait until the
chariot race and sleep through the rest, except to get up to get
snacks from the kitchen.

Review: Issue # 1 of The Star Wars, by Dark Horse Comics

Mama Fisi's picture

I hold in my hot little hands (okay, my cotton gloved little hands) a shiny new comic book--the first issue of Dark Horse Comics' adaptation of George Lucas' orginal script treatment "The Star Wars." This would be re-written to become the movie that launched a thousand ships. It takes place longer ago, in a galaxy even further away...

FAN FILM FRIDAY: LEGO My Star Wars

Republibot 4.0's picture

In honor of the release of Dark Horse Comics' adaptation of George Lucas' original draft for the script of Star Wars, I've found a couple LEGO Star Wars fan films. These things are everywhere. And while I think it's cheating to use CGI LEGO figures instead of doing it the old fashioned way with tedious incremental movements and single frame advances, like we did back when I was in film school, you can't deny that *tschyt,* these things are funny...

The Original Star Wars Script Treatment

Republibot 4.0's picture

A long time ago...yeah, you know the rest...a hot new director fresh out of film school, with one moderate hit under his belt, tried to get the rights to do a version of Flash Gordon, but was turned down by the copyright holders for that franchise.
