SCIENCE FICTION MUSIC REVIEW: "Seeking Major Tom" by William Shatner (2011)

Robert Bee's picture

Over the last ten years or so, I’ve greatly enjoyed William Shatner’s career, from his acting to his “musical performances.” I appreciate the camp and self-parody he displays on his CDs.

SCIENCE FICTION MUSIC REVIEW: "Particle Man" by They Might Be Giants (1990)

Wil Avitt's picture

Particle Man is the seventh song from the album Flood by indie rock band They Might be Giants. As the band is independant, and has managed to remain pretty obscure, the song was never released as a radio single and never had an official music video. However, in the early 90's it was licensed to the animated series Tiny Toon Adventures who did do a music video for it, and this clip is considered by many to be the song's "official" video. SCIENCE FICTION MUSIC REVIEW: "Free For All" and "Resigned" by Michael Penn

Republibot 3.0's picture

We haven't done one of these for a while, and this'll be a short one dealing with something that's stymied me as to how to deal with it for a bit.

Michael Penn (Brother of Sean, Husband of Aimee Mann) is the vaguely alterna- vaugely folkie- musician who had a big hit in the late eighties with "No Myth," an absolutely great song. Remember that one?

SCIENCE FICTION MUSIC REVIEW: “Has Been” by William Shatner (2004)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Let's put aside the notion that this isn't a serious album, that this is a joke, that this is somehow kitsch. It's not. This is not the bizarrely pretentious 1968 Shatner album, or the self-parodying Priceline lounge singer commercials. This is a real honest-to-God album, much to my surprise, and, I presume everyone else's as well. I pre-ordered the album on a lark.
