BOOK REVIEW: "Frontier Earth" by Bruce Boxleitner (Ghostwritten by William H. Keith) 1999

Republibot 3.0's picture

The Republispouse was looking to get me some gag gifts for my birthday this year, and stumbled across a couple of novels "By" Bruce Boxleitner in the local Save-A-Buttload. With it's lurid cowboy front cover that would make Louis L'amour wince, and it's Babylon 5 Promotional Photo rear cover showing Boxleitner in an Earthforce uniform, flashing his "Hi, I'm Handsome!" smile, it is just one painfully embarrassing tome to be seen holding in public. My wife instantly knew she had a hit, and picked it up.

MOVIE REVIEW: Apollo 18

Wil Avitt's picture

OK, first of all I want to apologize for the lateness of this review. I didn't want to see this movie. I asked R3 if anyone else was interested in writing this months ago because I knew it was going to be terrible. I just don't buy the "found footage" crap, and frankly I'm getting pretty tired of it. It didn't work for Blair Witch, it didn't work for Paranormal Activity and it doesn't work for Apollo 18. This format doesn't work and it makes for boring filmmaking. Clerks being filmed in black and white works because it feels like watching footage from the store's security cameras. However, if Kevin Smith had gone for that and put the camera on the ceiling, it would have failed. Note to aspiring filmmakers: don't try to hide your film's low budget by doing something "clever" to explain why it looks like an amateur movie. Embrace your budget and your limited resources and make the best movie you can. Don't try and trick your audience like this. It'll make you look bad and lacking in creativity.

EPISODE REVIEW: Torchwood Miracle Day: “The Gathering” (Season 4, Episode 9)

Charles H's picture

The penultimate episode of Miracle day and the team deals with the devil and travels to the ends of the earth.

It has been two months since the last episode. The world is in a depression. A car smashes into a pharmacy. It is Gwen Cooper. She gets out and robs the store of a lot of drugs. She returns home and is being watched. She goes into the house with pizza boxes. They assume she is just out for pizza. Gwen has the drugs in the pizza boxes and evidently she and Rhys are the neighborhood drug dealers. They take medicine down in the basement to her father, who they are hiding.

EPISODE REVIEW: Thundercats: "Legacy" (Episode 7)

shhhimbatman's picture

This week picks up shortly after the last episode. The group is hanging around the Tower pretty much just chilling. Lion-o is trying to open the book and comes to the conclusion that instead of being magic in nature, The Book of Omens is instead technology. Suddenly the Book blast Lion-o knocking him unconscious. His spirit (?) is lifted into the book where his essence encounters Jaga who explains that the book is neither magic nor tech, and yet is both at the same time.

EPISODE REVIEW: Alphas: "A Short Time In Paradise" (Episode 8)

Jim Stiles's picture

Before I start in the actual review of this episode, I would like to state the following facts about myself. I believe in one triune God. I trust Jesus Christ as my personal lord and savior. I believe in the inerrancy and infallibility of the Biblical monographs. I believe that the Westminster Standards are the best available summary of the Christian faith.

EPISODE REVIEW: Torchwood Miracle Day: "End Of The Road" (Season 4, Episode 8)

Charles H's picture

Some forward momentum and some answers start to form.

Picking up right where the last episode ended, Jack, Gwen, Rex, and Esther are with Olivia Colasanto and are headed back to Angelo Colasanto’s house. They go into Angelo’s room. He is very old and lays in a hospital bed. Olivia says Angelo prolonged his life by lowering his body temperature, keeping a low blood pressure, etc. She tells them that Angelo observed Jack from a far ever since they departed in 1928. As they are visiting Angelo, Esther is listening and recording the entire conversation.
