EPISODE REVIEW: Terra Nova: “Occupation” and “Resistance” (Episodes 11 and 12)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Tonight brings us to the season - and possibly series - finale for Terra Nova, a frustrating little show that never had all that much potential, and yet still somehow never managed to come even remotely close to realizing it. Small targets are harder to hit, I guess. Ratings place this show on the bubble. It quite literally all comes down to tonight’s two-parter. If good, you’ll get another season. If not, well then this is our last view of the Shannon family.

So how does it end?

Actually, not badly:

EPISODE REVIEW: Sanctuary: “The Depths” (Season 4, Episode 11)

Charles H's picture

It is therapy time at the Sanctuary.

Will and Magnus are discussing closing some smaller Sanctuaries in the network. Since they no longer work with the government, money is a bit harder to come by. Henry is tracking the movements of the SCIU (Specified Counter Insurgency Unit). They are hunting an abnormal in Bolivia. Magnus remembers her father looking for an elusive abnormal in Bolivia. Legend has it this abnormal can give people strength and wisdom. Magnus’ father was the only one who returned from an expedition to find the creature. He warned all to stay away.

EPISODE REVIEW: Terra Nova: “Within” (Episode 10)

I’m kinda’ stoned. Dentist’s appointment. I didn’t sleep well last night, and I got up crazy early so I could have a cavity filled - my first one ever - and it was all fairly grueling, and the upshot (or downshot, as the case may be) is that even after sleeping for three hours once I got back, I’m still kinda’ dopey and buzzed. So if my review is less coherent than usual - not that it’s ever all that coherent - I beg your forbearance.

BOOK REVIEW: “The Star Diaries” by Stanislaw Lem (1971)

Republibot 3.0's picture

You know, I think I might be getting smarter. Well, realistically, that’s not possible - my neurology is pretty much locked-in at this stage in life, and in fact I’m loosing cells, but I’m better educated than I was, say, 15 years ago. I know more. If I’m not actually smarter, at least I’m thinking better - that’s got to count for something, right?

CHURCH TUCKER'S CAPSULE REVIEWS: "The Road" (2009)

Church's picture

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED ON 12/14/09

OK, we've all heard about The Road at this point. How it's bleak as all hell, yadda yadda. Well, the truth is that it sort of is, and sort of ain't. What it is, is damn good.

I was only moderately interested in the movie to begin with. I haven't read the book, and what I heard pre-release made it sound like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre with literary pretentions. Having seen it, I can say that it almost is, and that isn't a bad thing.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sanctuary: “Chimera” (Season 4, Episode 9)

Charles H's picture

It is a special episode of Sanctuary. Because it aired on Tuesday? Partly, but it also included the return of Nikola Tesla and Adam Worth.

A spider like bot is wandering around the halls of the Sanctuary. It enters Helen Magnus’ room. Just as it is about to attack, Helen awakens and grabs the bot. She wakes Henry Foss and they go to the computer lab to review security footage. The bot entered Will’s and Henry’s room before it was captured by Magnus. The bot ‘bites’ the victim in the back of the neck and downloads the person’s memories. Both Will and Henry are fine.
