REPUBLIBOT WEEKEND MOVIE PREVIEW: Movies Opening 3-19-10

Republibot 1.0's picture

So, why is it that Day Light Savings time is in place for more of the year than Standard time? Wouldn’t it make sense at some point to just call Savings time Standard time since it is now the defacto Standard time anyway?

Now the boiler plate: I’ve not seen these movies, nor have I done any research. I trust in the ever faithful power of pop culture osmosis to inform these increasingly insightful opinions about films opening this weekend. All of the film information presented here, including the plot summary, have been pulled from the Opening This Week page of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/). This week we are previewing The Bounty Hunter, Diary of A Wimpy Kid, and Repo Men, amongst others.

Let’s get this thing over with – after the jump...

Blergh… Kind of a mixed week this week. On one hand, genre-wise, a good 66% of the releases are near our sweet spot, on the other hand, only 3 movies are opening. But, such is life – you take a little of the good with a bit of the bad and get a tuna casserole. (I have no idea what that means, but it made sense when I wrote it 30 seconds ago.)

Anyway, let’s quickly get our disclaimer out of the way and dig in: I’ve very obviously not seen any of these movies, nor have I invested any effort into researching them. I am trusting in the universal power of pop culture osmosis to inform my admittedly clueless opinions. All of the film information presented here, including the plot summary, has been pulled from the Opening This Week page of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/). This week we are previewing Alice In Wonderland, Brooklyn’s Finest, and the Secret of Kells.

So, without further ado, grab hold of my hand, close your eyes, take a deep breath and let’s make the jump…

Finally! A half-way decent week for new movies. It isn’t huge, but it is definitely a step in the right direction. I was starting to feel like I was stuck in a Russian love story – one in which passion is demonstrated by not speaking to each other in order to avoid finding out damning information that you could trade to the government in return for the basic necessities of life. Ahhhhh, romance.

Boilerplate disclaimer: I have not seen any of these movies, nor have I gone out of my way to research any of them. I am just passing mindless judgment on them. All of the film information presented here, including the plot summary, has been pulled from the Opening This Week page of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/). This week we are previewing The Crazies, Cop Out, and Defendor, amongst others.

Very well then – let’s get started right after the jump.

Is February over yet? Honestly, will this winter ever end? Anyway, it looks like a pretty sparse movie going week on the Republibot Weekend Movie Preview. We only have one even remotely interesting movie opening. But first, a quick reminder: I have not seen any of these movies, nor have I researched any of them. The whole point of this weekly feature is for to pass judgment on films I have not yet seen. All of the film information presented here, including the plot summary, has been pulled from the Opening This Week page of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/). This week we are previewing Shutter Island, The Ghost Writer and a couple of others that I don’t want to scroll down and copy and paste back up here…

So, if you are ready, let’s begin – right after the jump.

Hola!! This week on the Republibot Weekend Movie Preview we have some possibly interesting genre offerings at the old movie house. But before we jump in, let’s just get our standard reminder out of the way as quickly as possible so that we are all on the same page: I have not seen any of these movies, nor have I gone out of my way to do any research on any of them. The interesting part for me (and really, it is all about me…) is passing judgment on these films, sight unseen and completely by osmosis. All of the film information in these previews, including the plot summary, has been pulled from the Opening This Week page of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/). This week we are previewing The Wolfman, Valentine’s Day, Percy Jackson, and My Name Is Khan

And there we go, and here we go…

Ben stepped out of the elevator and faced his staff. They had been waiting nervously to hear the news from the Executive floor, or the Crystal Palace as it was referred to. He tried to smile reassuringly at everyone and taking a deep steadying breath he just dove in, “I‘m not really reviewing anything here. Unless stated otherwise I’ve not seen any of the movies in this ‘Preview’. I am really just thoughtlessly passing judgment on films that are scheduled to open this week and that I haven’t researched at all (not even a little bit). All of the film information in these previews, including the plot summary, has been pulled from the Opening This Week page of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/). In this week’s installment we are taking quick looks at: The Princess and the Frong, Invictus, and The Lovely Bones – among others…”

The group started chattering urgently amongst each other, and then Ben dropped the bomb.

In this week’s installment we are taking quick looks at: Armored, Brothers, and Everybody’s Fine – among others…

As we get started on this week’s Republibot Weekend Movie Preview round up, I just want to reiterate again, for those just joining us, I‘m not really reviewing anything here. Unless stated otherwise I’ve not seen any of the movies in this “Preview”. The only thing that I am doing is quite thoughtlessly passing judgment on films that are scheduled to open this week and that I haven’t researched at all. I am doing this because I find it interesting and because it makes me laugh, and as long as the Republibot site is okay with me doing this I will keep it up as long as it amuses me. All of the film information in these previews, including the plot summary, has been pulled from the Opening This Week page of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/). In this week’s installment we are taking quick looks at: Planet 51, New Moon, and The Blind Side – among others….

We’ll get right to it once you make the jump…

Banniston looked out over the world as it burned. The air was greasy from the smoke and the humidity from the water heavy air. His small gang of survivors stared out, the look of defeat on their faces almost palpable. He had no answers for them, all he knew was that they had to keep moving. Stopping was extinction, as long as they kept going forward, they would keep going forward. He coughed the black phlegm out of his throat and waved everyone over to him so they could hear his cracked voice, “ I‘m not reviewing anything here, so unless stated otherwise I’ve not seen any of the movies in this ‘Preview’. All I am doing is quite thoughtlessly passing judgment on films that are scheduled to open this week and that I haven’t researched at all (I was tempted, but resisted). All of the film information, including the plot summary, has been pulled from the Opening This Week page of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/). In this week’s installment of the Republibot Weekend Movie Preview we are taking a look at: 2012, Pirate Radio, and Fantastic Mr. Fox – among others….”

A little boy, what was his name again… Miles, Milton… something… looked up at him, his face streaked with dirty tears, and then collapsed on the ground unmoving.

The wind ripped through their hair as they sped down the road, their laughter getting lost in the slip stream behind their little convertible. The stars shown down on them and their eyes twinkled back. Susan smiled over at him and reached over to gently touch the side of his face. Tommy glanced over and his face split in a big smile as he leaned into her hand. She caressed his cheek softly and moved over closer to him and then whispered seductively into his ear, “ I‘m not reviewing anything here, so unless stated otherwise I’ve not seen any of the movies in this ‘Preview’. All I am doing is quite thoughtlessly passing judgment on films that are scheduled to open this week and that I haven’t researched at all (not in the least). All of the film information, including the plot summary, has been pulled from the Opening This Week page of IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/nowplaying/). In this week’s installment of the Republibot Weekend Movie Preview we are taking a look at: The Fourth Kind, A Christmas Carol, and The Men Who Stare At Goats – among others….”

Tommy shivered and kissed her lightly on the brow as they sped down the deserted old road. He smiled into her eyes and said, “Do you want to see something really scary…?”
