REALSPACE: America Turns It's Back On Space

Republibot 3.0's picture

There have been a number of huge space-related decisions starting with the Obama campaign, which have caused me a lot of concern, moments of anger, and some genuine disgust. Regular readers of our little blog here will know that I’m not a reactionary kind of guy. I don’t hate the other party simply because they’re the other party, I don’t generally attack them. I do occasionally tease ‘em and I’m pretty open in my confusion about their thought processes, which frequently seem self-contradictory to me. I’m not that guy. I believe in America, I believe in the Two-Party system, I believe that the system is generally self-regulating, and if either side goes too far, the people will vote the extremists out of office.

That said, I don’t know what - aside from anger - to make of this:

REALSPACE: Obama’s Vision For Space Exploration. Haven't we seen this before?

Republibot 3.0's picture

One aspect of the President’s administration that mystifies me, and which I don’t think gets as much press as it really should is his opinion on the Space Program and/or NASA (Arguably, the two are not the same).

This is a mistake that our children will still be paying for thirty years from now.

INTERVIEW: Chris Cook from Modern Conservative Talks Politics, And About Being A Pro Genre Extra

Republibot 3.0's picture

Today we've got Chris from Modern Conservative (dot) Com with us to talk about the absolute best Science Fiction series of the 1990s, Babylon 5, among other things. Chris, thank you for being with us today!

CHRIS: Thanks so much for having me. Gosh, I've never been interviewed by a robot before. What a wonderful time to be alive!

REPUBLIBOT 3.0:

Now, Chris: rather than the normal geekish blather we throw around here, you actually have a personal connection to the show, right? You were actually *In* a couple episodes?

Is Star Trek Liberal or Conservative?

We rag on Trek a lot here at the ‘Bot…

[Pause for uncomfortable comedic effect]

You probably expected a “But” to follow that statement. Something like “We rag on it a lot, but it’s only because we love it so” or “…but only because we want it to rise above its shortcomings” or simply “…but we don’t really mean it.” So let’s try that again, shall we?

“We rag on Trek a lot here at the ‘Bot.”

[Another uncomfortable pause]

REALSPACE: What I neglected to consider...

Republibot 3.0's picture

Not too long ago, I wrote a little article online here about how our Space Program is screwed, since Obama seems to oppose it. (That article http://www.republibot.com/content/realspace-things-are-looking-really-ba... ) Project Constellation is, of course, our attempt to get rid of this guilded turd that the Nixon administration saddled us with, and which we've been pointlessly flying - and killing people with - for very nearly a generation now (1981-2009).

ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION #8: Science Fiction Politics

Republibot 3.0's picture

Today we’re going to be discussing the different ways Science Fiction typically portrays politics, and as such we’ve invited one of our new friends from the Thredonia website - Kit - to take part in addition to our normal rogues gallery.

KIT:
Its a pleasure being here.

REPUBLIBOT 3.0”
Also, say hello to Kit, Burt Cottage, Chip Haynes, and Deadpan. Guys, thank you for being with us!

BURT COTTAGE:
Thank you for inviting me to take part when it seems clear I have the smallest frame of reference for the topic of anyone involved.

CHIP HAYNES:
Hey, guys.

Selfrighteous Hippies: Helping the Rich Get Richer by Killing People In Africa (And Elsewhere)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I’m not ordinarily a ‘cause’ oriented kind of guy. It is my opinion that – at least in American life – mass-media-driven causes are basically institutionalized attempts to make a lot of money by playing off the gullibility and liberal white guilt of our fellow citizens. I’ve always been skeptical, but these kinds of things, even when they’re done with the best of intentions, always seem to go wrong. Remember all that grain that USA for Africa purchased for starving Ethiopians when we were teenagers?
