News on Next Season's Genre Programming

sysadmin 2.0's picture

The networks just wrapped up their 'Upfronts'- where they trot out their programming and schedules and hope that advertisers will bite.  Maybe the shows will bite and the advertisers will trot out.  In any event, they happened and we all discovered anew what we had suspected for years: FOX hates Science Fiction.

DRIVE-BY GEEKERY (Early Eighties Edition): SCTV: “Zontar” (Season 4, Episode 12)

Republibot 3.0's picture

The Republispouse got me SCTV on DVD as sort of an present-in-advance for my birthday next month. (I know. I don't get it either, but, hey, windfall!) and I’ve been plowing my way through them in delirious abandon. There’s a number of old SF gags in the show, which I’ve been debating mentioning on here despite being nearly 30 years old. I mean clearly, no one cares anymore, so why should I waste everyone’s time? I realized that I have to do at least one of these: the episode entitled “Zontar” which is an obvious reference to the 60s d-movie “Zontar: The Thing From Venus.”

EPISODE REVIEW: Chuck: "Chuck vs. First Class" (Season 3, Episode 5)

Sam White's picture

[Warning: I write this review while sitting slope-side in Colorado, so I can't guarantee my ability to stay focused.]

Chuck got his first solo mission this past Monday night, much to the objection of Sarah and Casey.  But Shaw was determined to send Chuck on this mission and see if he had the makings of a "real" agent.

BREAKING NEWS: Kings is dead, long live the Kings

Republibot 3.0's picture

Geez, what a week I'm having. First JG Ballard dies, and now NBC has pulled Kings from their schedule. They plan on burning off the remaining episodes during the summer doldrums - June and July - probably with the typical lack of fanfare and respect that NBC has treated the show with thus far.

Honestly, I don't know how or why they do this - the show costs $4 an EPISODE! They've blown $44 million on the episodes they've already produced, plus another ten million on the pilot. You'd think they'd want a shot at earning some of that money back.

Blame for KINGS already being tossed about

Republibot 1.0's picture

I think it is safe to assume that we were all pleasantly surprised by the premier episode of KINGS here on Republibot.com, however, that said - it is hard to ignore the abysmal rating that the show received last Sunday eve. With the terrible ratings, blame is already being bandied about in the land of Milk and Honey, which is Hollywood not Gilboa.
