EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “The Anaconda Strain” (Episode 19)

Glen Larsen, creator of Battlestar Galactica and The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo, is frequently called “Glen Larceny” in the industry. (Though presumably not to his face). Why? Because he’s notorious for ripping off plots from movies, filing down the serial numbers, re-grooving the tires slightly, and passing ‘em off as his own. I mean, Galactica lasted one season, only told seventeen stories, and five of ‘em were blatant knockoffs.

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “Union of the Snake” (Episode 18)

The hub has been jiggering its Friday night schedule around for nearly a month now, and as a result I’ve missed several episode, or caught them a bit out of sequence. Sorry about that. I’ll try to be better.

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “Shipwrecked” (Episode 16)

Republibot 3.0's picture

The show ended up getting preempted last week for crazy reasons, and I missed it when they finally deigned to show it. This is unlike the Hub, they’re generally so thoughtful of their viewers, but I’ll just take this as a one time thing, particularly as they re-aired the ep this week for the benefit of dopes like me.

And, hey, guess what: It’s a really good episode!

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “White Out” (Episode 15)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Some years ago Tunnel Rat, Snowjob, and Frostbite were in the same unit, and were thick as thieves. Happy, silly-named insubordinate thieves. Snowjob and Frostbite went out skiing, there was an avalanche, and Frostbite died. Overcome with guilt, Snowjob left the army, dropped out of life, and moved to a cabin in Canada, which - I would be remiss in not pointing out - is what most people do to get out of having to join the army in the first place. Snowjob would seem to have some cause and effect problems.

Flint and Lady Jaye take Zartan out of prison to help them find the Joes. Turns out Snake Eyes has been using the guy’s bike, and it’s got a GPS tracker in it.

Meanwhile, the Baroness has stolen the prototype for some experimental bio-camouflage technology, and wiped the mind of the inventor to keep him from talking or selling the tech to others.

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “Brothers of Light” (Episode 13)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Three hours of TV, six shows, four of which I have to review myself. I haven’t even gotten started and my fingers hurt, and I’m suffering the profound psycho emotional discord that comes from having foolishly attempted to watch “33 1/3rd Revolutions Per Monkee” today. We’ll see how this goes:

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “Fire Fight” (Episode 10)

Republibot 3.0's picture

The Joes come to the town of Green Ridge, which was a nice riverfront town before Cobra came in and built a dam. They claimed they’d provide water and electricity to the townsfolk free of charge, and after the initial construction, the river would start flowing again. When the Joes get there, the townsfolk have decided Cobra’s no good. The mayor (Fred Willard) tells the Baroness that the courts have ordered the construction halted, and that the floodgates must be opened.

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “The Enemy of my Enemy” (Episode 9)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Before we begin tonight, I want to mention the passing of Clement Suave a week and a half ago. Mister Suave was a comic book artist, and he also did the character redesigns for GI Joe: Renegades. He died of cancer at age thirty three. Far too awful a fate at far too young an age for anyone, but doubly so in the case of someone so talented. Our prayers go out for his soul, and for his family.

EPISODE REVIEW: G.I. JOE Renegades: "Busted" (Season 1 Episode 10)

sysadmin 2.0's picture

Over 14 hours late, but here it is:  My take on the new G.I. Joe series.  It raises several questions, but the most important one is: Is it worth your valuable time?

Whether it is or not, the review is a must read.  As usual, the recap is full of spoiled stuff.  I mean spoilers.

Actually, no.  I mean spoiled stuff.

Read on and save your eyeballs.

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “Dreadnoks Rising” (Episode 9)

Republibot 3.0's picture

A few people have accused this show - not without some significant justification - of being effectively The A-Team. I don’t have a huge problem with that. The wandering outcast helping people while trying to clear his name is a longstanding American tradition, both in books, movies, and TV (The Incredible Hulk, The Fugitive, and any number of cop-on-the-run shows and westerns). I don’t have a huge problem with a format that works, provided it doesn’t become a straight jacket.
