EPISODE REVIEW: Defying Gravity: “Rubicon” (Episode 5)

Republibot 3.0's picture

The show has been steadily getting better. I know some people have criticized the show as it tends towards melodrama more than SF, but the fact of the matter is that they’re living on a space ship, and they’ve got a lot of time to kill. Whether you want it or not, you’re going to get a lot of melodramatic crap, just ask anyone who’s ever lived in a Co-Ed dorm. This week in particular, the scale tilts in favor of the soap opera stuff, rather than the more traditional skiffy stuff, but truth be told, I actually kind of liked it.

EPISODE REVIEW: Iron Man: Armored Adventures: “Man and Iron Man” (Episode 14)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Hey. Sorry for the late review on this episode, but we’re having some update problems this weekend. Anyway, we put it to a vote, as you’ll recall, about whether or not I should continue to review the show, and a whopping two and a half votes poured in (Don’t even ask about the half one, it was weird.) The final count showed 1.5 votes in favor, 1 against, so it would appear I’m going to be reviewing this show for another season or cycle of 13 episodes, or however it is they’re organizing this thing. Not exactly an overwhelming mandate, but the very tiny masses have spoken, and I obey.

EPISODE REVIEW: Warehouse 13: “Implosion” (Episode 7)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Tonight had all the earmarks of being another sub-par episode, but it completely fooled me and ended up being one of the best ones they’ve done, very likely the best of the whole series up to now, despite a rough start and some gratuitous Conulselor Troi-ing.

EPISODE REVIEW: Iron Man:Armored Adventures: “Hide and Seek” (Episode 13)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Tonight we have what may or may not be the season finale of Iron Man. I’m frankly unclear about it. Some sources say it is, some sources say it isn’t, or that it’s the end of a production cycle and not a season, or whatever. So we’ll just ignore whether it’s intended to be a capstone or just another day in the life, and get on with the review, shall we?

Pete and Mika are in St. Louis investigating a gas fire in a police station, where Pete notes “A bigass generator,” so you know that’s going to come in to play later on, right? Six people died, several others injured. In the basement, they find a man wearing 1960s clothes handcuffed to a pipe. They quickly realize he was a Warehouse agent.

EPISODE REVIEW: Defying Gravity: “Threshold” (Episode 3)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Episode three wasn’t quite as good as the two they debuted last week, but mostly only due to the lack of any particular narrative tension. The ship wasn’t in peril, the crew weren’t in (imminent) peril, there’s not a lot of risk, hence not a lot of tension, but it was still a pretty solid episode, if rather low key. A character episode rather than a major arc episode. Still pretty as hell, well directed, solidly acted, if perhaps not exactly compelling.

EPISODE REVIEW: Eureka: "If You Build It..." (Season 3, Episode 13)

First things first, I’d just like to say that this episode continues the streak of Eureka’s better episodes. These isn’t to say that it’s perfect or even the best of those since the mid-season break, but it is solid and still above the par set earlier in the season. It also marks the first episode which devotes itself entirely to the Signal metastory. I must say that I’ve found the conciseness of the metastory so far to be refreshing as opposed to the first and second season’s Artifact metastory.

EPISODE REVIEW: Iron Man Armored Adventures: “Seeing Red” (Episode 12)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Six episodes back we had the absolute worst episode of the entire series thus far, “Iron Man Vs. The Crimson Dynamo.” It was basically a pointless and more-or-less illogical WWF smackdown with mighty fighty robots. Tonight we’ve got a direct sequel to that episode, and - whoda’ thunk it - it’s actually pretty good.
