REVIEWS: Dollhouse: “Vows” (Season 2, Episode 2)

The previews made it look rather 'meh', but this was actually a very well-done episode from start to finish, and it ended up rather impressing me.

Topher tells Ballard that he’s amazed himself - he’s managed to reprogram a brain in such a way that the brain reprograms the body, and this might change the world. He won’t say what he did, and it’s an oddly expositional and extraneous scene, so you know it’s going to come back in the third act in some capacity.

EPISODE REVIEW: Dollhouse: “Vows” (Season 2, Episode 1)

Republibot 3.0's picture

When last we saw the Dollhouse, as you may recall, Paul Ballard had finally managed to crack it, but unfortunately let Alpha in. Higgaldy Piggaldy ensued, during which “Mellie” was freed, Paul struck a deal with the Dollhouse, Alpha escaped, Victor was sliced and diced, and we discovered that the doctor was a former doll with a fake personality.

A meteor shower strikes a corn field, but the meteors all turn out to be alien ships with bugs-bunny-styled screw tops. Aliens come out of them, and stalk silently through the corn, and are met by an excited bunch of villagers who welcome them in the night and give them food.

EPISODE REVIEW: Warehouse 13: “MacPherson” (Episode 12, Season Finale)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Our season comes to an end that’s no less uneven in it’s finale than it was in the events leading up to it. The episode is definitely better than last week, and again perhaps guardedly above the average for this show, but still far from their peak, and farther still from what they’re capable of.

EPISODE REVIEW: Defying Gravity: “Eve Ate The Apple” (Episode 9, Not broadcast in the US)

Republibot 3.0's picture

As anyone reading this knows, the network has more-or-less abandoned “Defying Gravity,“ and made a hokey announcement that episode 8 was the “Season Finale,“ when in fact there’s at least four more episodes in the can. I’d asked our foreign readers to pitch in, but so far no dice. In the meantime, astute Republibot-in-Training “nwkeys01” actually found the episode online. Special thanks, man (I assume). We will now all pause for 15 seconds to sing your praises.

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10: Alien Force: “Inferno” (Season 3, Episode 3)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Interestingly, the new season of Ben 10 Alien Force has gone out of its way to feel…kind of old. Ben is less mature, Kevin is a monster again, Grandpa is around, Gwen is likewise less mature, and Ben and Gwen have a slightly more adversarial relationship than they have for the last two season. Added to which, Ben has less-than-complete control of the Omnitrix, and he’s pissed off Azimuth, so he’s unlikely to get it fixed any time soon.
