EPISODE REVIEW: Stargate Universe: “Earth” (Season 1, Episode 7)

Republibot 3.0's picture

We’re three episodes away from the halfway point in the season, and the obligatory Syfy/Sci-Fi channel mid-season break, and I find that I’m firmly on board for the show, and I feel as if the low key long-term startup of the show is starting to pay off. Many have complained that it feels like it’s spinning it’s wheels -and compared to the previous shows, it is - but what a lot of critics don’t seem to realize is that this show isn’t aiming to be a carbon copy of the previous series, but rather a new kind of storytelling for a new kind of show set in the same ol’ fictional Gateverse.

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10:Alien Force : “If All Else Fails” (Season 3, Episode 8)

Republibot 3.0's picture

We’re now past the middle of the entirely-unexpected third season of Ben 10, and though the show continues to struggle to figure out exactly what it wants to be, it seems to have finally fallen in to a nice groove of storytelling. It may not be as ambitious as the previous two seasons, and it may be laboring under the heavy and obvious hand of ‘redefining’ the characters, but it remains a good show, with a solid core.

EPISODE REVIEW: SMALLVILLE: "Kandor"

sysadmin 2.0's picture

Tonight on Smallville, do we get any kneeling before Zod? Maybe a little...

Kryptonian Civil War--- A medic is taking blood from all the members of Zod's battalion. Jor-El stops the process before it gets to Zod. Kandor goes up in a fireball. We cut to Earth where we find Zod speechifying. Apparently having their blood taken was the last memory they all had. Zod blames Jor-El for their lack of powers--- and they may be right, but not for the reasons they think.

EPISODE REVIEW: FlashForward: "The Gift" (Season 1, Episode 7)

sysadmin 2.0's picture

Demetri starts making contact with others who haven't had flashforwards through a website called www.AlreadyGhosts.com (You can click on it if you like… it just goes to ABC's official FlashForward website.) There seems to be a link between the AlreadyDead and the Blue Hand group. (Ha! I said 'link'!)

Gough's flashforward with River Song over the Rutherford Case starts to pay off…

EPISODE REVIEW: The Venture Bros.: “Perchance to Dean” (Season 4, Episode 3)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I hate to be one of those people who say “This show isn’t as good as it used to be.” It’s typical for any poser to claim that it was funnier when it was young and raw, before everyone jumped on the bandwagon. The fact that that’s occasionally somewhat true just makes it all the more annoying, because no one likes a poser (Except other posers, it’s a kind of mating call, I expect), and a poser who managed to fall ass-backwards in to being right is damn irritating.

EPISODE REVIEW: Stargate Universe: “Water” (Season 1, Episode 6)

Republibot 3.0's picture

It’s interesting that a lot of the diehards I know are complaining that this isn’t a Stargate show, not really, and they never use the stargate, and they’re never visiting planets, and they’re always on that damn ship, and they never go anywhere and wah wah wah I wanna’ see people walking through the woods in Cascadia and pretend it’s an alien planet, dammit! It always cracks me up when people do that. They claim they want something new, they claim that they didn’t like SGA because it was too much like SG1, but then they say that SGU is too different, and they can’t handle it.

EPISODE REVIEW: The Venture Bros.: “Handsome Ransom” (Season 4, episode 2)

Republibot 3.0's picture

After last week’s disappointing and needlessly confusing season premier, my first impression of this episode was “Oh, thank God! They’re back to normal!” My second thought was “Oh, God, no! Not more child molester jokes!” My third impression was essentially to vacillate back and forth between my first two impressions, with “Oh, God, no!” winning out around halfway through.

EPISODE REVIEW: Defying Gravity: “Kiss” (Episode 13)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I’m a sucker for goodbyes. The way things end are, for me, a lot more important than the way they begin, if only because, so often in life, we don’t really notice when things begin.

EPISODE REVIEW: Stargate: Universe: “Light” (Episode 5)

Republibot 3.0's picture

The introductory demi-arc to set up the whole premise of “Universe” - a kind of miniseries-within-a-series - concludes tonight offering little in the way of surprises, but a lot of characterization, and a better look at the odd new direction this series is heading in.
