EPISODE REVIEW: Tower Prep: “Field Trip” (Episode 8)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I’m taking a break from my staycation* to review this show. I’ll pick up the reviews of Warehouse 13 and Eureka as well, but those’ll be delayed, probably until Thursday.

According to legend, some years ago there was a Tower Prep student named “Phillips,” who tried to escape. He nearly made it to the wall, but was captured and presumably eaten by a monster called “Redfang.” It’s a ghost story students tell each other around the fireplace, but it’s unclear if anyone takes it seriously.

EPISODE REVIEW: Generator Rex: “Badlands” (Episode 20)

It’s always interesting to me when shows with no connection end up referencing the same things at the same time. Coincidence can be pretty coincidental sometimes, and tonight we get two unexpected riffs on The Road Warrior. The first I already covered in my review of GI Joe ( http://www.republibot.com/content/episode-review-gi-joe-renegades-%E2%80... ) and for the second, more over one, read on

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “The Fortress of Deception” (Episode 11)

What are we, England? We can’t do a full-length season anymore? It’s bad enough that cartoon seasons are so ridiculously short to begin with, but we only get eleven episodes of this show? Sheesh.

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: “The Enemy of my Enemy” (Episode 18)

Gah. It’s just too much. Five shows to review tonight? I’m overstressed. Republiboy went to bed, so I guess it’s just four, really. The Transformers finale will have to wait until tomorrow. Anyway, Ben 10 continues its unexpected slide into darkness tonight with a nice fake out: You think it’s going to be funny, but, no, it’s a heartbreaker.

EPISODE REVIEW: Stargate Universe: “Resurgence (Part 1)” (Season 2, Episode 10)

Republibot 3.0's picture

In the last three or four episodes this show has *FINALLY* come into its own. Ratings are even up by more than 100,000 viewers. Word of mouth is spreading. All this is good news, which, of course, makes me fear that slapping a mid-season cliffhanger/finale this close into its stride will kill all its momentum, the same way it killed Caprica. (Well, to be fair, it was that *and* a whole lot of incomprehensible writing that killed Caprica.

EPISODE REVIEW: Tower Prep: “Election” (Episode 7)

Republibot 3.0's picture

One of the more overtly allegorical episodes of “The Prisoner” is called “Free For All.” In it, the titular Prisoner is cajoled into running for office. At first he intends to do it just to destroy the system and set everyone free, but as the race progresses he gets more and more into the whole thing, and when he wins, he honestly thinks maxims like ‘Obey me and be free’ make sense. He tries to run the place his way, and is immediately slapped down by those in charge. Why?
