EPISODE REVIEW: Transformers Prime: “Masters and Students” (Episode 6)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Megatron is dead, Starscream attempts to consolidate his control over the Decepticon forces on earth. No one has a great deal of faith in him, so he decides to revive one of the guardians Megatron squirreled away on earth in stasis millennia ago. He thaws out “Skyquake,” which isn’t a song by Dead or Alive, but it really sounds like it should be. Skyquake immediately beats up Starscream and gets in a fight with Optimus and Bumblebee, gets killed, dies, and is given a cheap funeral.

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “Fire Fight” (Episode 10)

Republibot 3.0's picture

The Joes come to the town of Green Ridge, which was a nice riverfront town before Cobra came in and built a dam. They claimed they’d provide water and electricity to the townsfolk free of charge, and after the initial construction, the river would start flowing again. When the Joes get there, the townsfolk have decided Cobra’s no good. The mayor (Fred Willard) tells the Baroness that the courts have ordered the construction halted, and that the floodgates must be opened.

RETROSPECULATIVE TV: Babylon 5: “Midnight on the Firing Line” (Season 1, Episode 1)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Babylon 5 was intended to go into production immediately after the pilot wrapped in 1993, but financing fell apart, and the whole thing lingered in limboland until January of ‘94 when the series itself was launched. As with any series, there are a lot of obvious changes between the pilot and the series proper, but here we have more than most. Not only was there the long delay, but much of the cast was fired, and the entire production was moved to a new studio across town, with many sets being redesigned, abandoned, or trashed in the process.

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10 Ultimate Alien : “The Transmogrification of Eunice” (Season 2, Episode 1)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Welcome to the second season premier of Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. I don’t know how accurate this is, but word on the street is that this is to be a loooooong season, thirty-two episodes.

PLAY BY PLAY

Team Ben is going camping, much to Kevin’s chagrin. He’d much rather do something fun (I’m right there with ya’, brother: Nature is none of my business), but Ben’s fans swamp him wherever they go, limiting them to hind-end-of-nowhere locations.

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “The Enemy of my Enemy” (Episode 9)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Before we begin tonight, I want to mention the passing of Clement Suave a week and a half ago. Mister Suave was a comic book artist, and he also did the character redesigns for GI Joe: Renegades. He died of cancer at age thirty three. Far too awful a fate at far too young an age for anyone, but doubly so in the case of someone so talented. Our prayers go out for his soul, and for his family.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “The Ballad of Scary Mary” (Episode 12)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Welcome to the…uhm…what, exactly? Is this the second season premier of Sym-Bionic Titan? Or an extremely distended second half of the season? Or is the show dead, and they’re just burning off the episodes? Theoretically, CN ordered 20 episodes, so it’s probably not dead *yet* but one wonders what’s going on.

Whatever role this episode is supposed to fill, the show returns after a three-month absence with no promotion or fanfare; ignominiously bumped from the Friday night schedule by “Young Justice.” It got dumped here amidst a lack of promotion and fanfare.

RETROSPECULATIVE TV: Battlestar Galactica (1978): “Greetings from Earth” (Story 13)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Adama is narrating his journal about how he feels they’re drawing closer to earth. Meanwhile, Starbuck and Apollo are on a long-range patrol, asleep in their cockpits. They wake in time to find a sub-light spacecraft of some sort adrift with what appear to be human life signs aboard. They haul it back to the Galactica.

RETROSPECULATIVE TV: Max Headroom: "Blipverts"

BleedingheartBot's picture

"Max Headroom" is an odd beast: An American series based on a British TV film whose main character first became familiar to American viewers through a series of advertisements. Furthermore, it's a TV series about a TV reporter which openly criticizes and ridicules TV networks and the way "news" is made. It doesn't get much more meta than this.
