EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “Prodigal” (Episode 20)

Say, that was pretty frackin’ good!

Like 18 years ago there was an X-Men cartoon on Fox, I think. The first episode involved them introducing someone you assumed was a main character - “Morph” was his name - and then killing him off for shock value in the last act of the episode. Of course this being an early ‘90s cartoon, they could get away with stuff like that (Unlike in the 80s) but it still felt kinda’ out of place, kind of vicious, so, of course, they brought him back a few years into the run of the show.

EPISODE REVIEW: Stargate Universe: “Gauntlet” (Season 2, Episode 20, Series Finale)

Republibot 3.0's picture

…and just like that, it ends. Not with a bang, not with a whimper, but with a profound silence that speaks off all that might have been, but never will. It’s a sad ending, a needless ending, but I see now what the producers meant: it’s a solid ending, and almost - if not quite - satisfying. This isn’t an ending, nor is it a cliffhanger in the way ‘Gate usually does ‘em, this is not a conclusion, but….but the story can rest here. As likely as not, it’ll never be revisited, as likely as not this is the end of Stargate forever, but we end with hope and silence.

EPISODE REVIEW: GI Joe Renegades: “The Anaconda Strain” (Episode 19)

Glen Larsen, creator of Battlestar Galactica and The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo, is frequently called “Glen Larceny” in the industry. (Though presumably not to his face). Why? Because he’s notorious for ripping off plots from movies, filing down the serial numbers, re-grooving the tires slightly, and passing ‘em off as his own. I mean, Galactica lasted one season, only told seventeen stories, and five of ‘em were blatant knockoffs.

And just like that - bang - Babylon 5 is firing on all cylinders! After a mediocre start and two significant fumbles, suddenly we get a strong sense of what the show wants to be and what it’s capable of.

EPISODE REVIEW: Stargate Universe: “Blockade” (Season 2, Episode 19)

You know when the president (The current one, or just pick one you like) makes a State of the Union address, and then, when it’s done, the commentators basically tell you everything you just heard, as if you didn’t just hear it? I’ve sort of waxed and waned about how detailed my synopses should be. Generally I’ve erred on the side of comprehensiveness, but I’ve increasingly soured on that. I mean, I’ve gladly done it for going on three years now, but it’s tedious to do, and I imagine kind of boring to read.

The hub has been jiggering its Friday night schedule around for nearly a month now, and as a result I’ve missed several episode, or caught them a bit out of sequence. Sorry about that. I’ll try to be better.

Old George appears at Area 51, busts in, and teleports the entire thing somewhere else, leaving only a huge miles-wide hole scooped in the ground. Cooper - last seen in the last episode of last year - is now a plumber. He calls in Grandpa Max, who brings Team Ben along mostly because they happened to be having a cookout with him at the time.

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: “Moonstruck” (Season 2, Episode 10)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Remember last week when I was nattering on (In two separate reviews) about how I’m kinda’ bored with Ben 10 and Generator Rex, but Ben 10 is really, really, really, really trying hard to hold on to me, whereas Rex is just kind of going through the motions? Well, brother, they’re trying again tonight!
