EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 7” (Episode 7)

Republibot 3.0's picture

I know, I know: with my wildly non-sequential reviews of this show, you were assuming I wouldn’t get to this one until September, and I’d do the series finale before I got to it, and maybe a retrospective, too. Well - tah-dah - wrong. I’m all about surprises. And Fried Foods. And Sarcasm. Really, though, if I’m honest, I’m more about Fried Foods than the other two things. Ok, so, fine, I’m not all about surprises. That’s kinda’ surprising in and of itself, isn’t it? Probably not. You don’t actually know me all that well. Ah well. Screw it, on to the review portion of this review:

EPISODE REVIEW: Thundercats: "The Sword of Omens" and "Ancient Spirits of Evil" (Episodes 1 and 2)

Rest assured I have *no* plans of reviewing this series, but since the kids made me watch it so as to compare it to a show I only barely remember disliking a quarter century ago, I thought, "Eh, I'll do the intro." And while the show isn't nearly good enough for me to review it regularly, it really was a heck of a lot better than I anticipated. Which is to say: It actually was a good show!

Today we’re covering the most recent three episodes of Falling Skies, which has been renewed:

“Falling Skies premiered in the U.S. on TNT Sunday, June 19, drawing an extraordinary Live + 7 audience of 8 million viewers and ranking it as cable's top series launch of 2011. The premiere also garnered an impressive 3.8 million adults 18-49 and 4.5 million adults 25-54. Through its first three installments, Falling Skies has averaged more than 6.4 million viewers through a blend of live and time-shifted viewing.

EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 5” (Episode 5)

You know, I think this is exactly the kind of thing they were shooting for when they started making this series. This is the target they were hoping to hit from the outset, but have managed to miss every week prior to now. This is actually a genuinely good episode, well-told, if a bit padded out during the “Meanwhile back at the ranch” stuff. The only thing more frustrating than a doomed, ham-fisted, boring show is when said show actually manages to hit all the right notes more-or-less by accident, and you see what it *could* have been. EPISODE REVIEW: Alphas: "Anger Management" (Episode 3)

Jim Stiles's picture

This episode involves an Alpha with the ability to spread pheromones at will. Unlike normal pheromones that are said to encourage romantic thoughts and behaviors in humans, these pheromones can cause human beings to become extremely violent, even murderous. In order to capture the Alpha, all of the team members on the capture effort, except for the Alpha with super strength, had to take injections of serotonin to prevent a reaction to the pheromones produced by the antagonist.

RETROSPECULATIVE TV: Babylon 5: “Deathwalker” (Season 1, Episode 9)

The show is definitely beginning to get some feet under it. I’ve mentioned once or twice that some of these early episodes feel like they would fit better in other series - the Outer Limits, or TNG, or whatever. Well, this episode bears more than a few similarities to the TNG realm of storytelling - a clear-cut moral tale with good guys and bad guys and a strong (If obvious) message about the triumph of good over evil and the perfectibility of humanity.

EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 4” (Episode 4)

Narrative sequence? Never heard of it!

I was reviewing this already-dead show, then missed three episodes, caught up with one of ‘em yesterday, watched the current one last night, and I watched another one I missed today.

Inconvenient and frustrating, I know, but it’s not like you fine folks are paying for this.

EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 6” (Episode 6)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Our entirely sporadic coverage of this series continues…sporadically!

Now, I’m still a couple episodes behind in catching up with this thing, and I briefly toyed with the idea of not reviewing tonight’s ep until I was caught up, but ultimately I rejected that since the show is already dead, will not resolve its storyline, and isn’t very good to begin with. It was just too much effort for too little payoff, all things considered. So our coverage continues, but, I apologize, the eps are gonna’ be somewhat out of sequence.

EPISODE REVIEW: Outcasts: “Episode 3” (Episode 3)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Today (Saturday) we resume our somewhat infrequent coverage of the already-cancelled BBC series “Outcasts.” For those of you late to the party, the show takes place in the not-too-distant future (40 or 50 years) on a planet with the unfortunate name of “Carpathia” that looks and feels a lot like South Africa, upon which the last remnants of humanity attempt to build a new life for themselves after having fled a war that wiped out earth.
