THINGS WE'RE DEFINITELY INTERESTED IN: The Thirty-Second Season Of Doctor Who

Republibot 3.0's picture

So this is the new trailer for the new season - the 32nd one! - of Doctor Who. It's all a tease. Primarily we just see some hokey clearly-not-from-the-series footage (As opposed to the normal hokey footage culled from the first few eps) as a way of selling us on excitement and hot chicks in short skirts, without letting out any spoilers.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: "The Ten Doctors"

Republibot 3.0's picture

As we've related elsewhere, the Fan Film universe consists of Star Wars, Star Trek, and assorted debris. Of course that was intended as a joke, but definitely it's true that those two franchises tend to dominate things to an annoying extent. I mean, seriously, how hard would it be to get some surplus Night Ops BDUs and run around in the woods with toy guns playing "Stargate?" Yet no one ever does it.

Thus it gives me great pleasure to introduce something that isn't Stargate or Star Wars: "The Ten Doctors," a Doctor(s) Who adventure.

OBSERVATIONS: Doctor Who: "The End Of Time, Part 2" (Season 31, Episode 5)

Boy, am I glad that's over!

Republibot 2.0 has already done a great play-by-play in his review, so I won't bother with one here. Where to begin with this ending? As anyone who ever watched "Melrose Place" or "Northern Exposure" o r "Lois an Clark" or the new "Battlestar Galactica" knows, there comes a point where you've jerked your audience around so much that it becomes increasingly difficult for them to give a damn. I'd say Doctor Who passed that threshold with the season 30 finale. (Which, in typical Russel T. Davies was basically a bunch of sound and fury signifying nothing)

Episode Review:Doctor Who: The End of Time, Part Two (Season 31, Episode 5)

So, after what seems years, the Davies/Tennant era is over. I really enjoyed most of it, but tonight it came to an end. Up until tonight, I hadn't thought that they had overstayed their welcome--- but honestly, Russell T. Davies managed to make his exit an amazing display of self indulgence.

It was still entertaining, but......

Well, Jump already! Spoilers ahoy!

FAN FILM FRIDAY: "Trek Through Time" by Kelvington

Happy New Year, and welcome to our first quandry of the new decade: Is this a fan film or just a mashup. Well, obviously it's a mashup, but does that mean it isn't a fanfilm? To be honest, I'm not sure. Granted, there's no original footage here, no sets built or rendered, no fat guys from Minot, North Dakota pretending to be Commander Koening, or what have you, but it still kinda' feels like a fan film, it's got that air about it, even if it doesn't quite fit the bill.

OBSERVATIONS: Doctor Who: "The End Of Time, Part 1" (Season 31, Episode 4)

As Republibot 2.0 has already done a synopsis and review for the episode, I'm not going to bore you with another recap. Instead, I'll just jump right to my own observations:

OBSERVATIONS:

Wow, this was a goofy episode.

Christmas Eve Links

Republibot 3.0's picture

Ok, we haven’t done any links in a while, and as it’s Christmas Eve, this seems a fine place to use them to kill time until the Turkey’s done. We start out with Season’s Greetings from the Once And Former Dr. Who, who seems to have a weird obsession with spending his yuletide in the UK:

And after the jump, more stuff and things
