MOVIE REVIEW: Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor

As most of you know, this past Saturday saw television history being made. At 19:50 GMT (Greenwich Mean Time, also the time in London, England) the BBC television network held the world's largest simulcast of a television program in broadcasting history. All across the world people turned on their television sets, and a few select groups piled into movie theaters, and saw "The Day of the Doctor", the 50th anniversary feature-length episode of the television series Doctor Who. For many of us, this was the culmination of years of anticipation and speculation. Who will return?

Movie Review: An Adventure in Time and Space (2013)

As part of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Who, The BBC commissioned a biopic of sorts of William Hartnell the first Doctor. Written by Mark Gatiss, this made-for-TV movie purports to tell the first days of the seminal BBC children's show. (well, it started out as a children show.)

It's a busy day today, but I wanted to post this BBC America schedule of shows tying into the 50th anniversary celebration for Doctor Who. There are specials and marathons all this week, leading up to the global simulcast of "Day of the Doctor" on November 23d.

In a lawsuit which threatens to overshadow the 50th anniversary of Britain's long-running science-fiction series, Doctor Who, the son of the man who wrote the first episode, "An Unearthly Child," is suing the BBC for breach of copyright, since they have not given his father credit for having invented the iconic, time-travelling blue police box.

FAN FILM FRIDAY: Doctor Who--Silent Night

Republibot 4.0's picture

This is the kind of stuff my buddies and I would have loved to have been able to make when we were teenagers!  Alas, we had to content ourselves with overdubbing patched-together VHS tapes.  Ah, progress!

It's a little late for a Chistmas-themed Fan Film, but hey, when you're the Doctor, what's time got to do with it?

RANDOM WANKERY: Assuming Paul McGann's Doctor had been picked up for a series, what would it have affected in the present?

Republibot 3.0's picture

So last night, I had a dream that the current Who revival in the UK (2005-present) was ongoing, and exactly the same as it is in the real world (3 doctors, 81 episodes, five companions, etc), but that the 1996 American attempt to revive the franchise on the Fox network in 1996 had been a success. In my dream, the Eighth* Doctor (Paul McGann) did 110 episodes over 5 seasons. Despite this, however, the series had been all-but-forgotten by everyone but me, and when I talked about it, the only thing people remembered was the crappy TV movie.
