EPISODE REVIEW: Chuck: "Chuck vs. the Cubic Z" (Season 4, Episode 3)

Last season, "Chuck" was renewed for 14 episodes. Then NBC realized their programming lineup sucked and Jay wasn't funny if you were awake, so they suddenly ordered 5 more eps. This lead to some uneven eps last season that made you think they had been quickly cobbled together. Not bad eps, just "half-eps" that bridged a gap that didn't really need to be bridged. That's what this week's episode of "Chuck" felt like to me.

EPISODE REVIEW: Chuck: "Chuck vs. the Suitcase" (Seasaon 4, Episode 2)

Awesome has been buying a lot of this stuff at the Buy More, which has drawn his attention to a problem there: efficiency. Way too much efficiency. It gets so bad that Morgan realizes he has to talk to General Beckman—who he calls by her first name—and precedes to give a very funny demonstration of just how well-run the Buy More now is. He points out that Buy Mores aren’t supposed to be that way and such a state will draw the attention of bad guys. Beckman agrees and authorizes Morgan to put together a team to run the Buy More properly. So Morgan and Casey track down Jeff and Lester, who are living in a van 7 miles away. This was one of the rare episodes where the Buy Moria overshadowed the “real” story. Which was that …

Episode Review: CHUCK: "Chuck vs. the Anniversary" (Season 4, episode 1)

Sam White's picture

When last we saw Chuck Bartowski, his recently deceased (maybe, people have a way of coming back on “Chuck”) father had left him with a mission: to find his mother (who, it turns out, is Sarah Connor, which means Chuck is actually ... never mind). He begins this season by enlisting uber-spy Morgan Grimes in this quest, a task for which Morgan is more than ready—or so he says.

EPISODE REVIEW: CHUCK: "Chuck vs. the Honeymooners" (Season 3, Episode 14)

Chuck and Sarah are on a train (not quite the Orient Express but something quite like that) going across Europe as they run away from being spies. But then Chuck flashes on a bad guy and Sarah happens to glimpse a gun on what she thinks is one of the man’s minion

Episode Review: CHUCK: "Chuck vs. the Tic Tac" (Season 3, episode 9)

Open to a jungle setting somewhere in 1989.  A young soldier named Alex Calhoun is being told he won't make the elite ranger team and that he's being shipped back to his old unit.  Before he can even make it to the car, he is greeted by a shadowy Stargate-looking guy who recruits him into an ultra-secretive, ultra-patriotic group and changes his name to ... [spoilers galore!]

Episode Review: CHUCK: "Chuck vs. the Fake Name" (Season 3, Episode 7)

If you are a fan of the series “Chuck” but didn’t see this episode, don’t read this review.  About all I can say that doesn’t spoil anything is to tell you that Big Mike ordered too many crock-pots.

Episode Review: CHUCK: "Chuck vs. the Mask" (Season 3, episode 6)

Sam White's picture

Chuck gets sent on a mission … with Hannah?

In one of the best orchestrated scenes of the series (and they’ve had some good ones!) Chuck is left hanging upside down in the vault trying to grab the mask while Sarah is fighting for her life above the vault. Meanwhile, Hannah--just doing her Nerdy job--is trying to open the vault doors with the computer. Casey, however, is trying to override Hannah and keep the doors closed. Chuck gets the mask, Sarah clobbers the bad-guy, Hannah gets the door open just in time and Shaw manages to evade the detection of the bad guys while Casey remains safely undetected. All would be hunky-dory if not for the fact that Hannah thinks Chuck still has feelings for Sarah and is just playing her.

Episode Review: CHUCK: "Chuck vs. the Nacho Sampler" (Season 3, Episode 6)

Sam White's picture

Now that he’s a “real spy” Chuck has to start acting like one.  He’s assigned to take befriend a nerdy computer genius (but I repeat myself) who appears to have reverse engineered a copy of the intersect.  This is a problem for Chuck because he—unlike Casey—genuinely likes people and doesn’t like faking friendship.  Once he gets to know the young man, the friendship isn’t faked, but …

EPISODE REVIEW: Chuck: "Chuck vs. First Class" (Season 3, Episode 5)

Sam White's picture

[Warning: I write this review while sitting slope-side in Colorado, so I can't guarantee my ability to stay focused.]

Chuck got his first solo mission this past Monday night, much to the objection of Sarah and Casey.  But Shaw was determined to send Chuck on this mission and see if he had the makings of a "real" agent.
