EVANGELICAL ATHEISM: “In The Land of Believers” by Benyahim Cohen

Longtime readers of this site - and pretty much anyone who knows me personally - will know that I’ve long been fascinated by what I call “Evangelical Atheism:” Those who are not content merely to disbelieve, but who feel compelled to spread their belief by what can only be described as ‘evangelical’ means. It’s a kind of “There is no God, and Madeline Murray O’Hare is His prophet” kind of thing. For those of us who are believers, it’s incredibly irritating and occasionally offensive.

Nick Payne is a Christian Blogger who’s had his “Sanctuary” site up and running for at least three years, and he posts occasionally under the name “Galahad” over on B5.com. I bumped into him over there in a conversation about religion, where he instantly impressed me with his thinking. He linked me to one or two articles on his site, and the one below tends to reflect an ongoing concern that we have here on the site, so I figured I’d give it a shoutout and link to it.

There's a Science Fiction Film Festival going on in Texas this week, and they sent out press releases. Since it's a Science Fiction Film Festival, you'd think that the Science Fiction Website "Io9" (No, I don't understand the name either), would say "Hey, cool! We'll plug it for you on our site!"

Ah, but no, you see, it's a *CHRISTIAN* Science Fiction Film dealie. "Christian" is a four-letter word over at Io9. Here's what they said on their site:
