EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: “Too Hot To Handle” (Season 1, Episode 6)

Republibot 3.0's picture

P’andor, the Russian-accented alien from last week’s episode, is permanently sealed in armor. (What they would have called an “Encounter Suit” on Babylon 5) Now slumming on earth, he’s none to happy about this, and is paying various safecrackers and hoods to try and break him out of it. Kevin, in his occasional hood mode, decides to help out.

EPISODE REVIEW: Generator Rex: “Lockdown” (Episode 4)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Our Friday of unimpressive fare continues - or so I thought it did - with a paint-by-the-numbers episode of Generator Rex that started off all-too-simple, but ended up surprising me. I really, really needed surprising tonight, so I’m pretty grateful. They ended up going in directions I hadn’t foreseen, and it ratchets up the complexity of the series quite a bit.

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10 Ultimate Alien: “Computer Games” (Season 1, Episode 4)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m in a bad mood tonight, maybe I’m just accentuating the negative, but all the shows we cover this evening have felt kinda’ sub-par to me for some reason. Witness this episode, which really makes no sense: Ben gets approached by a videogame designer to do a game with him as the star. He puts on a Motion Capture leotard, and transforms for a few hours, then is sent on his way. Later on, a big spider-bot - and by the way, I am so totally sick of spiderbots - attacks him really effectively, countering all of his attacks, then runs off.

Timeline Problems in the Ben 10 Universe

Republibot 3.0's picture

Much as I like Ben 10 - and I do - the continuity of the show has always been problematic. Some of that is the unavoidable result of time compression in the show. The original series ran from December of 2005 to May of 2008, yet it took place entirely within the space of 90 days, one summer. The sequel series ran from April of ‘08 to March of this year (2010 for all of you folks reading this in the future. How are those flying cars and starships working out for ya’ up there?), and was set over the course of one school year.

SONG OF THE WEEK: "Queen of Mars" by "Candace Flynn" (2008)

Republibot 3.0's picture

This is from "Phineus and Ferb," which is far and away my favorite Disney Channel cartoon at the moment, possibly ever. It really could eclipse Kim Possible in my heart, if I'm honest. If you've not seen the show, it's worth a look, and there's two entirely gratuitous songs in each episode, several of which we've featured on here before. Anyway, it's only a minute long, it's catchy and funny, so check it out under the jump. You know, unless you're a jerk...

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10 Alien Force: “Above and Beyond” (Season 3, Episode 17)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Grrr. Is there anything worse than an episode where the audience is deliberately misled into thinking there’s real peril going on, only to find out that it’s all just a training exercise? Really, it’s just the worst bait-and-switch available.

EPISODE REVIEW: Ben Ten Alien Force: “Con of Wrath” (Season 3, Episode 11)

Kevin: “This is like one of those dreams where everyone you know is in it, and they’re all trying to hurt you.”
Gwen: “I don’t have dreams like that.”
Kevin: “Uh…no, neither do I.”

And on that note, we find yet another episode in fine form, possibly the best, and certainly the funniest episode of the year.

Man, I’m sick as a dog tonight, but I’m still gonna’ try my normal Friday night triple-play of reviews. We’ll see if I make it through, or even survive.
