EPISODE REVIEW: Ben 10 Ultimate Alien : “The Transmogrification of Eunice” (Season 2, Episode 1)

Welcome to the second season premier of Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. I don’t know how accurate this is, but word on the street is that this is to be a loooooong season, thirty-two episodes.

Team Ben is going camping, much to Kevin’s chagrin. He’d much rather do something fun (I’m right there with ya’, brother: Nature is none of my business), but Ben’s fans swamp him wherever they go, limiting them to hind-end-of-nowhere locations.

EPISODE REVIEW: Sym-Bionic Titan: “The Ballad of Scary Mary” (Episode 12)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Welcome to the…uhm…what, exactly? Is this the second season premier of Sym-Bionic Titan? Or an extremely distended second half of the season? Or is the show dead, and they’re just burning off the episodes? Theoretically, CN ordered 20 episodes, so it’s probably not dead *yet* but one wonders what’s going on.

Whatever role this episode is supposed to fill, the show returns after a three-month absence with no promotion or fanfare; ignominiously bumped from the Friday night schedule by “Young Justice.” It got dumped here amidst a lack of promotion and fanfare.

EPISODE REVIEW: Young Justice: “Welcome to Happy Harbor” (Episode 3)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Following a visually impressive and very well directed premier/pilot/two-parter dealie, we finally get on ot the series. How will it hold up? I found the premier to be immediately gripping, but to my surprise I found it didn’t hold up to even two viewings, story-wise, even though the visuals were sumptuous and the animation was easily on par with WB’s straight-to-DVD movies. So where to from here? I’m very eager to find out.

EPISODE REVIEW: Young Justice: “Pilot” (Episodes 1 and 2)

This is another one I’m unsure about. I don’t know if we have the manpower to review this series when it starts its regular run or not, but I thought I’d give it a shot, what with it being a slow night and all.

EPISODE REVIEW: Tower Prep: “Fathers” (Episode 13)

We pick up with the cliffhanger fight from the previous episode. Ian gets all psycho ninja on some gnomes, and escapes. CJ is having second thoughts about betraying her friends, but she feels loyalty to her dad as well. Headmaster assures her that Gabe has “A shadow” over on West Campus. Ian finds out about Gabe and attempts to rescue him, but gets lost and meets a creepy guy in the tunnels who looks more than coincidentally like The President from this episode of The Prisoner:

EPISODE REVIEW: Tower Prep: “Snitch” (Episode 12)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Though there was a slight up-tick of a hundred thousand votes or so last week, things don’t look at all good for the future of Tower Prep. The ratings are weak, promotional support by Cartoon Network has been virtually nonexistent for the last couple months, and the fact that they’ve been burning the episodes off two at a time during a period when most of their audience is on vacation and viewership is traditionally way down STRONGLY suggest that the die has been cast.

Our second episode of the night:

Ian’s had enough. He and the team plan to escape: 1) Hoard food 2) Use the translator to escape Gnomes 3) make a rope 4) climb over the wall 5) Get the heck out of dodge. Of course all of this has to go horribly wrong pretty quickly, right?

EPISODE REVIEW: Tower Prep: “Phone Home” (Episode 10)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Oh, this can’t be good, can it? A low-rated 12-episode series, and they’re burning off two of the remaining episodes per night? Not good at all. Our rapid - and completely undeserved - march to the grave commences tonight.

EPISODE REVIEW: Tower Prep: “Dreams” (Episode 9)

Republibot 3.0's picture

Before we jump into tonight’s episode, let’s discuss our options as to a second season. Paul Dini, the series creator said that he really wanted two or more seasons, but he also said that he built the series with a solid end to the first chapter. In other words, everything won’t be resolved, but we won’t feel cheated with a million dangling threads like when Firefly was killed. It’ll be more like the ends of Defying Gravity and Kings: an ending that is really just a beginning of other stories which, alas, we’re never gonna’ get to see.
