Merry Christmas. I hope the three of you tuning in today are ready for an entirely-inappropriate film review. Are you sitting comfortably? Well then let's begin:
We begin with a clever recap of the previous episode, a montage with a voice over of the elder from the island village telling the story of the Water Humans meeting the Bird Humans for the first time, and the creation of Rooy Kanu, the first “modern” human. The Montage/Recap flows seamlessly in to the episode itself, and we see that the villagers are hiding in a cave listening fearfully to the story while Sara prays to the gods to protect them, Roy continues to fight the Anti-UN forces in the air over the island, reeking much havoc, and Shin runs to the lake to save Mao.
“Macross” is probably the best Science Fiction TV Series of the eighties. If I’m honest, that’s not saying a lot, since there wasn’t much to compare it to. Certainly “Manimal” didn’t offer much competition, nor did “The Powers of Matthew Starr.” Yeah, there was Star Trek: The Next Generation in the final third of the decade, but that series didn’t exactly hit the ground running as Wil Wheaton’s occasional reminiscences over on TV Squad point out.
