The end of the World versus the Status Quo

My kid likes Greek mythology, and I like Norse. He asked me why one time, and I said "Because Norse has more cultural relevance. It's Proto-Germanic, our culture is derived from Germanic. It just touches on more of our basecode than Greek stuff does, since our culture is in no way related to ancient Greece."

"How does it connect with you more? Example?" he said.

ORIGINAL FICTION: "An Unguarded Moment"

Randall Anthony Schanze's picture

I've written and/or co-written seven stories thus far this year, and I think this is the best one. A half dozen other people have told me the same thing.

Anything more I say about it would spoil it, so please do check it out here. That's me doing a rather faltering dramatic reading. (Mental note: don't attempt such things when you're gassy. You have to keep stopping the camera, and even when you're not belching you tend to randomly break words in half or use odd diction)

The Perils of Being Right in the Wrong Way

Randall Anthony Schanze's picture

These are not original thoughts, I can't really take credit for deep thinking here, but something has been bothering me for a while.

There is a rather new phenomenon: it's this thing where you attack people who are for the same things you are for not being for them in the right way. So if you post something that's against racism, you're not against it in the right way, or you're naive, or thinking wrong. If you are against war, you're not against it for the right reasons. The list goes on and on.
