The Walking Dead: "Crossed" (Season 5, Episode 7)

Walkers melted to the street.

You read that right. Meet Exhibit A as to why, no matter how hardened you are to this show, they keep topping themselves. What they do with that is a new low, or high I suppose, depending on whether you think your vomit bag is half full or half empty.

The Walking Dead: "Consumed" (Season 5, Episode 6)

This week is a character vignette. That's a welcome throwback to the type of isolated episodes that formed the last half of Season 4. In this case, Carol and Darryl are a pleasure to watch together, their obvious familiarity with one another adding depth to moments of alternating compassion and cynicism.

Gotham: "The Mask" (Season 1, Episode 8)

This show finally found an authentic voice of its own in “Penguin’s Umbrella.” Now it returns to clearing its throat. Reversion to the mean, anyone?

After a truly excellent episode last week, Gotham slides into a lazy “Fight Club” knockoff that’s just kind of there. The obligatory Bruce Wayne bit is actually more interesting this time around, complete with a distinct dash of thuggery by Alfred. The mutual distrust between Gordon and the GCPD after last week also adds a little continuity. Overall, though, this one's pretty slim pickings.
