Last week, a woman in Fruita, Colorado (official motto: “No, we’re not that frozen drink at Taco Bell”), was in a one car wreck caused by, she told authorities, a vampire. According to the woman—who didn’t want her identity published, for reasons I’m sure we can all understand—she was just driving home when suddenly there was a vampire, right in the middle of the road.

At the end of the movie “Hell is for Heroes”, Steve McQueen bravely charges a German gun emplacement and tosses in a grenade. It looks like he’s so close, the blast will probably kill him as well as the Germans. In so doing, he is saving his platoon and being a hero at the cost of his own life. One wonders if the same will happen for “The New Daughter,” the 2009 movie starring Kevin Costner that you probably never heard of before seeing it on the DVD shelf at your local retailer.

In popular media, the people who own and frequent comic book shops are often depicted as fat, nerdy and uncoordinated. This is, of course, a generalization. It may well be a correct generalization, but it is a generalization, nonetheless. As rebuttal to this picture, I would like to call the reader’s attention to a story that recently came to us from “across the pond”. No, not Lake Meredith, the big pond, the Atlantic. About this time last year, "Chuck" was on the bubble. Would it be back for a third season? No one--including the producers (and, most definitely including the network, who should have known)--knew. Then the fans kicked in and bought a whole lot of Subway sandwiches and it dawned on someone at NBC that they didn't have any good shows on. So they decided to replace a whole hour's worth of viewing with a tired comedian and announced that "Chuck" would be coming back ... after the Oleolympics, and only for fourteen episodes. Read more!
