BREAKING NEWS: Disney Acquires Marvel

As reported by multiple sources, Disney has bought Marvel Entertainment, including the comics and the movie divisions for about $4 billion.

Though Marvel has distribution deals with about a half dozen studios right now (Fox (X-Men), Sony (Spider-Man), Paramount (Iron Man/Avengers), etc), Disney seems unconcerned about this and is apparently in it for the long haul.

I personally think that the Marvel U could stand a little Disney-style lightnening-up.

Looking forward to the Fantastic Four Pixar movie... oh wait. That was already done...

DAYS OF FUTURE PAST: Cylons of the Great Depression

First comes the surly attitude - toots - and then comes the cigarettes and the next thing you know you've got Tricia Helfer running around in that little red number sleeping with british people and killing babies at the flea market. It's inevitable.
Though not a 'real' robot, it's more real than he appears. He was actually somewhat autonomous, there wasn't a guy in a suit pretending to be a robot.

SONG OF THE DAY: "(I Love You) MIss Robot" by The Buggles (1979)

Kinda' dirty and funky in a laid back way, but undeniably about robots, even if it is kind of a metaphor for social expectations Definitely a turnon factor to this song, the kind of thing that makes you want to talk in your best, lowest Barry White rumble and say to your wife all sexy-like, "Hey, woman, what say you and I put The Buggles on the stereo and get down to it?" And you'll probably be the first person in history to do that, which makes it worth while even if she says 'no.' Which she almost certainly will...click through to hear. I mean, it's 4AM, really who couldn't use a little lovin' right about now?

EPISODE REVIEW: Defying Gravity: “Bacon” (Episode 6)

So here we are at the end of the first half of the season, and I find I’m much more invested in this show than I anticipated. Yeah, I’m not unaware of its failings, most of them related to the technical side of things, but I find I’m responding well to the very decompressed storytelling, the slow character arcs, the relaxed pace.

Is It Just Me, Or Is The New Syfy Anthem More Than A Bit Culty?

Since no one - literally no one - has commented on this thus far, I think it behooves me to do so. SInce "The Sci-Fi Channel" rebranded itself as "Syfy" a couple months ago, they've been running this elaborate station identification/music video. It instantly annoyed me, which I assumed was just because it's overwhelmingly chick-y. (I'm not one of those people who thinks that SF should be just a boy's club, but I'm also not one of those people who thinks every show needs to look like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Charmed, either).

EPISODE REVIEW: Eureka: "You Don't Know Jack" (Season 3, Episode 16)

Wow, I’m so disappointed in this last episode. I actually think that it might be the worst episode of Eureka I’ve ever seen. I know that part of that stems from the above average arc that just finished up but the other part of it is the fact that some genius decided to do a clip show (which I personally vehemently despise) which just wasn’t very good. Then you add the strangeness that my DVR was telling me that this was the season finale even though wikipedia lists two more episodes after this.

SATURDAY MORNING B-MOVIE CRAP FEST: “War of the Robots” (1978)

Science fiction movies are expensive, much more so than more conventional fare. Why? Well, it’s not like you can go rent yourself a space ship or run off to wallmart and buy an NERVA engine, or pick up some aliens from the zoo. If you want this kind of crap, you can rent some of it - there are prop houses in Hollywood that have ‘high tech’ props, but most of these are pretty cheezy, and turn up in so many movies that they’re instantly recognizable as props.
